Yordan Álvarez is named the American League Player of the Month in July. The Astros’ Cuban slugger continues to put together a dream season. Álvarez was unstoppable in July posting a .360 average nine homeruns, 22 runs batted in and 1.118 over the month.
With this award, Álvarez joins José Abreu (2014) and Rafael Palmeiro (1999) as the only Cuban players to win two Player of the Month awards in the same season. The native of Las Tunas was also the Player of the Month for March/April. The frontrunner for the AL MVP has only strengthened his case with this selection.
This is the fourth time over his career that the Cuban has won the award in September of 2023 and also in June of 2022. On the season Álvarez leads the American League in average (.330), homeruns (35), RBI (84), hits (134), OBP (.443), slugging (.648), OPS (1.091) and is fifth in the American League in doubles with 24.
