Yasiel Puig declares Bankruptcy.

Yasiel Puig has reported $1.69 million in assets and more than $9.4 million in debt
according to documents filed by the Cuban baseball player with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Florida, his liabilities exceed the reported value of all his assets by approximately $7.75 million.

The Cuban outfielder reported $1,691,285.83 in assets, including a home valued at $992,000, $116,660.41 in bank accounts, $58,525.42 in investments, and ownership interests in three companies. His debts total $9,446,357.32: $8.79 million are secured obligations, while $647,970.98 are owed to unsecured creditors.

The former Major Leaguer also reported receiving $836,000 in gross income during 2025. His current salary in Canada was not disclosed due to a confidentiality clause in his contract.  The amounts were declared by Puig under penalty of perjury, but they may be amended and do not represent a final valuation by the court.

That point is particularly significant because Puig earned $51,619,354 during his Major League career, a figure that stands in stark contrast to the financial outlook now described in the court filings. This situation portrays a player who once signed multi-million-dollar MLB contracts but who now, according to his defense, faces a much smaller market, fewer opportunities, and a significantly diminished earning potential.

Puig’s financial situation is also detailed in another section of the court record. His agent stated that one of Puig’s most valuable properties is located at 6300 Moss Ranch Road in Pinecrest, Florida. According to the filing, the property received only two purchase offers over the past year—$6.5 million and $7 million—but both were rejected because they were below the amount Puig still owes the lender.

The declaration further states that the property, along with other real estate for which Puig is reportedly responsible, is currently in foreclosure proceedings, including his mother’s home. Carnet also indicated that the lender is seeking possession of the Moss Ranch property to satisfy the outstanding debt, including the principal balance, accrued interest, default charges, legal fees, and other foreclosure-related costs.

In the current day Puig is playing in the Canadian Baseball League, an independent circuit formerly known as in the Intercounty Baseball League. In 40 games in the CBL the slugger is slashing .396/.503/.861/1.364, 19 homeruns, 49 runs batted in and two stolen bases. In seven MLB seasons with the Dodgers, Indians and Reds he hit .277 with 132 homeruns and 415 runs batted in.
