The Baltimore Orioles placed infielder Jackson Holliday on the 10-day injured list and activated Cuban José Barrero, who has spent the entire season at Triple-A with the Norfolk Tides. This year, the 28-year-old with previous Major League experience has recorded 23 home runs, 53 walks, 13 stolen bases and 57 RBI at Triple-A.
Barrero made his MLB debut in 2020 with the Cincinnati Reds, appearing in 139 games through 2023. He did not play in the majors in 2024 and appeared in 12 games with the Cardinals last season. In 161 career MLB games, he has collected 22 extra-base hits—16 doubles, one triple and five home runs—while driving in 35 runs.
Baltimore will become the third MLB team Barrero has played for once he makes his Orioles debut. He will also become the 31st Cuban to appear in the majors this season. Yennier Cano and Luis Robert Jr. have also played for Baltimore this year.
