Carlos Rodón: “I’m ready whenever they call my name.”

Although Carlos Rodón started the season on the injury list he came late in the season and was a key arm for the Yankees during their playoff push in September. Over that month the Cuban-American hurler posted a 3-0 record and a 1.42 earned run average propelling the Bronx Bombers to a postseason berth.

In total on the year the left-hander from Miami made 16 starts going 7-3 over thar span and registering a solid 2.67 earned run average, while also 91 batters over 84⅓ innings. Opponents also hit a paltry .173 against Rodón.

If the Yankees win tonight the southpaw is scheduled to take the mound in a pivotal Game 4 at Yankee Stadium. We spoke to Rodón before his team’s Game 3 loss to the Rays in Tampa and the flamethrowing lefty had this to say.

Carlos you have a 1.42 ERA in September. Tell me about what adjustments you’ve made.

I mean, it’s just been kind of the same, just trying to attack the zone, give the team a best chance to win, and then, you know, whenever I’m out of the game, hopefully just keep the lead and win the game. I mean, the biggest thing is attack the zone and get outs.

Have they given you an ETA from when you will make your next start?

I’m not sure. I’m all ears. I’m ready whenever they call my name.

The Rays have a vaunted lineup How do you prepare for it?

I mean, they’re pretty good. You know, they got speed and lineup, obviously some pop at the top with Yandy, Caminero and Aranda. They’re pretty dynamic where, you know, some guys are laid down bunts and try to beat out hits, and then they’ll take the extra bag and steal bases as well. So, you know, biggest thing is attack the zone, field my position and just try to get out.
