MLB: Yordan goes yard, but Houston falls to the Sox on Opening Day

Yordan Álvarez connected the 99th roundtripper of his career in the ninth inning , a titanic shot to right field, but it wasn’t enough as the pale holes marched into to Houston and dropped the ‘Stros on Opening Day 3-2. The native of Las Tunas, Cuba not only helped the cause by knocking in one but also scored both runs for the Texans on the day.

For Chicago touted rookie Oscar Luis Colas made his debut swatting a hit in two at bats, while Yasmani Grandal’s moonshot in the 8th inning off Rafael Montero proved to be the difference in the contest. Luis Robert also helped the cause for the team from the Windy City with two hits and a run scored in four opportunities at the plate.

Randy Arozarena continued his torrid hitting into the season. The hero of the World Baseball Classic for Mexico knocked in a run in his four at-bats as the leadoff man more for Tampa in their 4-0 blanking of Detroit to open the season. The diminutive giant figures to once again play a prominent role in the lineup for the floridians.

Nolan Arenado once again opened the season on a tear collecting two hits and driving in three runs. His double in bottom of the eighth off Yimi García gave St. Louis a 9-8 lead that the redbirds’ bullpen failed to hold in the ninth. The Cards dropped the season’s opener to Toronto 10-9. The Cuban-American by the way now hits over .300 in his career during the 1st month of the season.

Adolis García with two hits, two runs batted in and a run scored to lead the charge in the Rangers’ Opening Day victory over the defending National League Champion Philadelphia Phillies 11-7. His two run single in the fourth was a key hit in a nine run inning for the team from Arlington.
