Adeiny Hechavarria has signed with the Long Island Ducks as announced by the team’s press department earlier today. The native of Santiago de Cuba, Cuba has seen action with Miami Marlins (2013-17), the Tampa Bay Rays (2017-18),Atlanta Braves (2019-20) , Toronto Blue Jays (2012), Pittsburgh Pirates (2018), New York Yankees (2018) and New York Mets (2019) during his nine year MLB.
The veteran infielder who was released by the Braves during the spring has appeared in 922 MLB games, hitting .253 with 37 home runs, 273 RBIs, 311 runs, 778 hits, 116 doubles, 36 triples and 35 stolen bases. Hechavarria during his career ranked in the National League’s Top 10 in triples on three separate occasions, finishing fifth in 2013 (8), second in 2014 (10) and eighth in 2015 (6).

He also been a defensive stalwart during his time on the grand stage, finishing fourth in fielding percentage (.984) and sixth in defensive WAR (2.0) during the 2015 season with the Miami Marlins. During that same 2015 season the shortstop was named the National League Player of the Week on April 27.
The last two seasons Hechavarria has seen action in the land of the rising sun with the Chiba Lotte Marines hitting .213 with six roundtrippers, 44 RBIs and slashing .238/.307/.545 during that span. With Long Island he will get the opportunity to flash his talents for teams from other foreign leagues such as the KBO and Mexican League in hopes of landing a more lucrative contract.
