Julio Pablo continues to be an unstoppable force at force at the plate this season. Yesterday the native of Guantánamo, Cuba was a catalyst in Round Rock’s 10-2 drubbing of Tacoma by swatting two hits in four trips to the plate an RBI and a run scored to watch his average soar to .435 on the campaign. For the 27-year-old outfielder right now is optimal time to stake his claim for a big league spot with the Texas Rangers hopefully later this year.
In double A César Prieto had a formidable day at the plate. The touted infielder from Cienfuegos, Cuba went 2-for-4 hit his third longball of the season, added a single, knocked in a run and scored on another occasion, but his best efforts couldn’t prevent Bowie’s loss to the Akron RubberDucks 7-4. Prieto who hit fourth and played second on the day is slashing. 444/.474/.667/1.140 on the young campaign. A long offseason of hard work is paying off for the Cuban early on this year at the plate.
In Advanced A Loidel Chapelli Jr went yard for the first time of the year in Winston-Salem triumph over Brooklyn 5-3. The second baseman drove in two runs and also scored two times to watch his average jump to a robust .429 on the season. The native of Camagüey, Cuba also sports a 1.357 OPS in first two games with the minor league club.
In Class A Rolando Espinosa of the Astros continues to maul minor league pitching to start the season to the tune of a .667 batting average. The Cuban outfielder mashed two hits in three trips to the plate, drove in a run and scored on another occasion to help the Fayetteville Woodpeckers edge the Fredericksburg Nationals 3-2.
