Cuban right-hander Yosimar Cousin has signed a two-year major league contract with the Chicago Whitesox. The colleague Francys Romero was the first to report the signing of the talented 25 year old Cuban a few hours ago. The signing of the talented pitcher reaffirms the close relationship between the franchise from the southside of the Windy City and the players born in Cuba .
Cousin left Cuba for the Dominican Republic in the early months of 2022, a little more than year later he signs his first professional contract with one of the MLB franchises that is most committed to signing talent from the communist island. The contract is pending a physical that will take place in the next few days. Cousín trained for more than a year at the Yuan Pino Academy in Santo Domingo in preparation for the signing.
A two million dollar signing bonus is included with the signing. In the structure of the agreement yet to be made official, there is an option in 2025, which would be activated if Cousín reaches the big leagues, by doing so he will also receive 1.2 million dollar bonus. If he doesn’t make the majors by 2025, then he will still get $625,000 , according to Romero.

The hurler will be assigned to minor league camp somewhere between Advanced A and Double-A levels, once this contract is made official. The way the contract is structured everything basically depends on the performance of the young flamethrower.
Cousin saw his first action with the Cuban National Team in 2019 during the Premier 12. In that tournament, several scouts were attentive to his every move. During that competition his fastball was between 92-95 mph on the radar gun and flashed a nasty slider. His curve and change up round up his electric repertoire. Cousin is also characterized as a pitcher with good command of his pitches.
The team is no hurry to rush the talented pitcher to the majors this year, because the Sox know that although he is talented he hasn’t pitched in more than a year and would need to get his sea legs under him. Expect Cousin to debut in the show sometime next season.
