Elian Leyva continues to shine during his time in CPBL minors with the Rakuten Monkeys. The righty from Mayabeque, Cuba had another quality start in the team’s 3-3 tie with the Wei Chuan Dragons second team. Leyva hurled seven innings where he allowed one run on two hits and struck out seven.

In his three starts in the minors he has thrown a total of 18 ⅔ innings, allowed four earned runs, struck out 19. His ERA is a sterling 1.98 in his three starts with Rakuten’s second squad. Expect the Cuban to make his next start with the big club.

In Japan Raidel Martínez notched his fifth save of the year in as many opportunities after pitching a perfect inning of relief in Chunichi’s 4-1 victory over Hanshin. His ERA remains at 0.00 and his five innings pitched this year the lanky righty from Pinar del Río, Cuba has struck out seven.

In Korea Guillermo Heredia swatted a hit en four trips to the plate in SSG’s victory over Kiwoom 3-1. The outfielder is now hitting .321 with two roundtrippers, nine runs batted in and is slashing .406/.482/.888 in his first season in the KBO.
