Néstor is Nasty in the Yankees’ victory over LA. (+Cuban MLB Report)

Néstor Cortés Jr has started the season dealing, the lefty from Batabano, Cuba collected his third victory of the season last night in the Yankees 9-3 victory over the LA Angels. The hurler who grew up in Hialeah, FL threw six innings where he gave up four hits, three earned, fanned six and walked two.

On the season his ERA jumped to 3.09. In 23.1 the crafty Cuban has struck out 22 and has a sterling 1.09 WHIP. In all three of his starts on the season Cortés has pitched at least five innings and struck out at least five hitters.

Lourdes Gurriel Jr connected on two hits in five trips to the plate, scored a run and drove in a run , but his best efforts couldn’t stop the Dbacks from their ninth game of the year to the Padres 7-5. The youngest of the Gurriel clan saw his average jump to .268 on the season. The outfielder from Sancti Spíritus, Cuba is now hitting .344 in his last seven games.
