Peter O’Brien went yard twice, drove in four runs and scored two times in Puebla’s 7-6 victory over Campeche. The Cuban-American now has three homeruns in the first two nights of the season and has driven in five runs to start the season.
Yoanner Negrín looked magnificent in his first start of the season. The Cuban right tossed five and two-thirds innings where he scattered two runs and fanned five in Yucatán’s 8-0 shutout of León. Negrín who was a key cog in the Leones championship run figure to be a key pitcher in the rotation once again this year.
Yadir Drake also helped out his countrymen by collecting a hit in two trips to the plate, scoring twice and even stole a base. The outfielder upped his average to .222 on the young season.
Lázaro Hernández was the only bright spot in Quintana Roo in the 25-3 shalacking by Diablos Rojos de México City. The infielder from Artemisa, Cuba drove in a run and scored on another occasion. After two games the third baseman is hitting .375.
