Henry Urrutia goes downtown twice in Saltillo’s victory (+Mexican League Report)

It was a very exciting night for players from Las Tunas, Cuba. It begins with Henry Urrutia whose bat has caught fire. Last night the reigning league batting champion was perfect in the three trips to the plate, going yard twice and driving in two runs. The slugger is now hitting .348 on the campaign with four roundtrippers and 11 runs batted in. Saltillo downed Monterrey 3-1.

Yunieski Larduet made his debut in the Mexican League with Campeche stroking a single and a scoring run in five at-bats last night. The centerfielder from Las Tunas, Cuba finally was able to see action after not being to travel due to migration problems. Campeche downed Quintana Roo 7-2.

Carlos Juan Viera was dominant last night on the mound in Tabasco’s 8-6 victory over Yucatán. The righty who is also from Las Tunas, Cuba threw six innings where he only gave up three hits and two earned runs to notch his first victory of the season. Roel Santos aided his countrymen with a bases clearing triple in bottom of the sixth inning to open the game up for the Olmecas.
