Lourdes Gurriel Jr went yard for the second time on the season, drove in a run and scored three times to do his part in Arizona’s 12-7 victory over Texas. The youngest of the Gurriel clan who now has 14 runs batted in on the season is also hitting .348 in his last seven games.
Recently promoted infielder Andy Ibáñez is starting to find his way with the lumber. In the second game of a double header swept by the Tigers against the Mets by the scores of 8-1,6-5 the native of the Isle of Youth banged out three hits in four trips to the plate and knocked in two runs to help Detroit’s cause. Ibáñez who now hits .214 on the season was 0-for-2 in the first game of the twin billing.
Miguel Vargas continues to do what ever he can to help the Dodgers win. In Los Angeles’ 10-6 win over the defending NL champion Phillies the young second baseman stroked his second longball of the season, a two-run shot in the fourth inning and scored twice to aid the cause. Vargas is starting to heat up with the bat hitting a respectable .280 and driving in nine runs in his last seven games.
