Rockies’ prized prospect is promoted to Double A.

This Monday the number 10 prospect in the Colorado Rockies farm system Yanquiel Fernández was promoted to the Double A with the Hartford Yard Goats, making it the second time he was promoted this season. He was promoted earlier this season from the Fresno Grizzlies (Class A) to the Spokane Indians (Class A Strong).

The 20 year old from Havana, Cuba signed with ball club in 2019 for 295,000. Last year the outfielder had an excellent season with the Fresno Grizzlies (A) setting the franchise’s all-time single season RBI record with 109.

Fernández was selected the player of week twice (June,August) last season in the California League. The slugger also finished in the Top-10 all-time in a single in doubles (33,T-6) and total bases (241,10). In the opinion of many Fernández is the most dangerous power-hitter with the Rockies organization.

His slash line of .284/.340/.507/.847 last season suggest that he has the potential to become a complete hitter. Of his 135 hits on last season 59 went for extra bases. The slugger was selected to the California League’s postseason all league team as a designated hitter in 2022. During his time with the Fresno Grizzlies (A) and the Spokane Indians this season he hit .314 with 17 longballs and 67 RBIs. In 264 trips to the plate he is slashing. 356/.590/.946 and has 154 total bases on the season.

At his young age and at this advanced level expect Fernández to finish the season at Hartford barring an impeccable performance.Colorado is excited about Fernández’s upside, but they are not going to rush him and according to MLB.com’s projection he should be debuting in the Major Leagues by 2025.
