Cuba KO’s the DR and El Salvador in a Doubleheader sweep at the JCC.

A night after losing a crushing 4-3 extra innings loss to Puerto Rico at the Central American and Caribbean Games, Cuba came back crushed El Salvador 15-0 and the Dominican Republic 12-0 in a twin billing vs the two countries.

The Antilleans swatted a total of 30 hits, 10 doubles, two triples and two longballs. In the first game against the host Salvadoran squad the Cubans were led by Yasniel González who drove in three runs and Erisbel Arruebarruena who stroked three doubles, knocked in a run and scored twice. Yoelkis Guibert was a homerun short of the cycle and drove in two runs.

Jonathan Carbó pitched five scoreless where he allowed three hits and fanned eight to notch his first win of the tournament.

In the second games Yoelkis Guibert picked up where left off going yard and driving in three runs to lead a Cuban attack that seems to be finding his way at the right time. Andrys Pérez also deposited a ball in the seats and knocked in three runs.

Roel Santos and Yadil Mujica combined for four hits, four runs batted in and three runs scored to be the sparkplugs for an offense that seemed listless before today.

Mexican League star Carlos Juan Viera evened his record at one for the tournament after tossing five scoreless innings and struck four, while Yunieski García also hurled a scoreless frame to close the game. Cuba who will play Nicaragua today needs a win to keep their tournament title hopes alive.
