As we are at the half way point of almost all the summer baseball leagues and All-Star Games are looming, a few more Cubans have cemented their places on various Caribbean squads this winter. JC Escarra, Pedro Echemendia and Rangel Ravelo will see action in winter circuits.
Pedro Echemendia who was a key piece to the Ponce de Leon’s pitching staff posting a 2-1 record and 1.16 ERA in the six starts with the Puerto Rican ball club. In six winter league seasons the the right-hander boast a solid 3.60 earned run average.

JC Escarra started the season in the Atlantic League, but after hitting .348 with 15 longballs and 41 runs batted in 41 games with Gastonia Honey Hunters, the Tijuana Toros came calling for his services. In 17 games with the Mexican squad he is slashing .333/.429/.621/1.050 with five tatters and nine RBIs. Escarra who was an All-Star last winter with Ponce will play in the Mexican League this season with the Algodoneros de Guasave.
In Ravelo’s case he returns to familiar surroundings in Santiago. The ex-big leaguer played with las Águilas Cibaeñas of the Dominican Winter League in 2020 and 2021, even helping the win a Caribbean Series in 2021. This season with El Paso, the Padres AAA ball club the slugger is hitting .302 with four homeruns and 21 RBIs in 44 games.
