Yordan Álvarez hit his 19th longball of the season and knocked in three runs to help power the Astros to a 7-3 win over Houston. The slugger who now has 59 runs batted in of the season is also hitting .348 in his last seven games.
Jorge Soler went yard for the 25th time on the campaign and drove in two but his best efforts couldn’t stop the Marlins from dropping the opening game of the series to the Phillies 4-2. The slugger snapped a slump that saw him hitting .222 in his last seven games.
Lourdes Gurriel Jr swatted a sixth inning double that helped tie the score at two in a game eventually won by the DBacks 4-3. Gurriel, who has been abysmal with the bat since the All-Star break drove in his 57th run of the season.
