Yoan López retired all four batters he faced in an inning and a third of relief in the Yomiuri Giants’ 7-6 loss to the Hanshin Tigers at Tokyo Dome. His ERA dropped to 5.79 and he has now fanned three in five innings of work on the season.

Ariel Martinez went hitless in three trips to the plate but drove in a run via a sacrifice fly in the Nippon Ham Fighters’ 6-3 loss to the Seibu Lions at Es Con Field in Hokkaido. The first baseman from Matanzas, Cuba went hitless for the fourth consecutive game, this reduced his average to .243, but raised his RBI total to 44 on the campaign.

There was no Cuban action on the day in either CPBL and the KBO. Guillermo Heredia of the SSG Landers is on the IL and Elían Leyva of the Rakuten Monkeys has yet to pitch since the All-Star break in the Asian circuit.
