Ariel Martínez shines in Chunichi’s loss. (Asian League Report)

Ariel Martínez smacked a double in four trips to the plate and also drove in a run, but his efforts were insufficient to avoid a 6-4 defeat by the Nippon Ham Fighters at the hands of the Chiba Lotte Mariners at the ZOZO Marine Stadium.

The first baseman from Matanzas, Cuba knocked in his third run in the last two games. His average remained at .259 but his RBI total increased to 58 on the campaign, leaving first amongst all Latinos in the circuit.

In Korea Guillermo Heredia collected three hits in six trips to the plate and scored on an occasion, but SSG fell to Kiwoom in extra innings 6-3. The outfielder now leads the KBO with a .343 average.

The outfielder who was a prized free agent acquisition by the Landers is also fifth in the league in OPS (.899), fifth in OBP (.400) and is hitting .330 with runners in scoring positions.
