This Friday the team of the month for August in Major League Baseball was revealed and a Cuban made the grade, it was none other than reliever extraordinaire Raisel Iglesias.
The right-hander was selected after immaculate month in which the antillean closer pitched in thirteen games and the same number of innings, had seven saves, struck out 17 opponents, issued four walks, didn’t allow a run. Opponents hit a paltry .156 against the hurler and his WHIP of 0.85 was stupendous.
After the All-Star game, the representative of Cuba in the 2013 World Classic has been practically unhittable, allowing only two earned runs in 18.1 IP (0.98 ERA), striking out 25, saving 11 games, all while allowing a batting average of .167 to opponents.
The dog days of summer don't apply to these guys.

The eight members of the team for the month were: Cole Ragans (SP; Royals), Bryce Harper (DH; Phillies), Kerry Carpenter (LF; Detroit), Julio Rodríguez (CF; Seattle), Mookie Bets (RF; Dodgers), Ke’Bryan Hayes (3B, Pirates), Tres Turner (SS; Phillies), José Altuve (2B; Houston), Ryan Monutcastle (1B; Baltimore) and Mitch Garver (C, Texas).
Iglesias is in his ninth Major League season and has saved 184 games over that span, only the flamethrowing Aroldis Chapman, who has put 319 fires over the same time frame has more saves.
The native of the Isle of Youth has saved 30 or more games three times of his career: 30 (2018), 34 (2019) and 34 (2021). This year, despite missing the start of the season due to injury, he has a very good chance of reaching 30 or more saves for the fourth time in his career. In addition to his 27 saves, he has three wins, 2.62 ERA (44.2 IP; 13 ER) and has 58 retired by way of strikeout.
El increíble mes de agosto de Raisel Iglesias, de los mejores cerradores en estos momentos en MLB.
