Yesterday the news broke via our sources that JC Escarra would not be playing in México or Puerto Rico as first expected, the Cuban-American slugger had instead signed to play with the Águilas Cibaeñas of the Dominican Winter League.
During the Unión Laguna Algodoneros playoff run this season Escarra’s stock rose after he slashed .333/.438/.621/1.059. Escarra also led the Liga Mexicana de Béisbol in homeruns during the playoffs with seven and was second to Chris Carter in runs batted in with 20.

Another Cuban-American who will be playing with those same Águilas is lefty Andrew Suárez, the Miami native pitched with the St. Louis Cardinals this season posting a ERA of 7.29 in 11 games. Suárez has also seen action in the KBO and NPB.
José Miguel Fernández, another ex-major leaguer who will play with the Yaquis of Ciudad Obregón of the Liga ARCO Mexicana de Béisbol. This campaign he hit .219 and went yard two times with Saraperos de Saltillo of the Liga Mexicana de Béisbol. Fernández was a hitting machine from 2019-2022 with the Doosan Bears of the KBO collecting 723 hits over that span.
