The Granma team representing Cuba was defeated 7-3 in the Baseball Champions League tournament by the Caimanes de Barranquilla, champions of the Colombian Baseball League during 2022 in yesterday’s action in a game marred by a lengthy rain delay
In a clash that was delayed for around three hours due to the rain, the Colombians started fast in the bottom of the first inning when the first three hitters (Edwin Rubén García, Gustavo Campero and Jesús Valdez) hit home runs against Granma starter Raymond Figueredo. The Alazanes managed to tie the score at the beginning of the third after combining a double by Andrés de la Cruz, singles by Aníbal Medina (RBI), Yoán Moreno and Raico Santos (RBI); and sacrifice fly by Yordanis Samón to tie the score at three.

Raymond (3.1 IP, 4H, 3ER, 3BB, 3K) was replaced in the fourth by Keniel Ferraz from Las Tunas, who managed to close that episode, but in the fifth, the wheels came off for the hurler, allowing four runs. Gustavo Campero drove in the fourth run for Barranquilla with a single, his replacement, Kelbis Rodríguez, was greeted by a bases clearing double from Pavel Leandro Manzanero that made the score 7-3.
Cuba was only able to swat seven hits and the only player had multihits on the day, he was Yoan Moreno from Artemis (3-2, R). For Cuba Ferraz took the loss, while Jesus Fandiño took the W for Barranquilla. The four-time Serie Nacional champs will face Yucatán tonight at 10 PM with a chance to put themselves in the tournament’s championship game with a win. Wilber Reyna will take the mound foe the Antilleans.
