Eddy Díaz was a premier base stealer during his time in the minor leagues with the Colorado Rockies. Diaz was the first investment in the Cuban market by the team when they signed the native of Matanzas signed with the Rockies in 2017 for 750 K.
The 23-year-old is known as “Fast Eddy” by the Cuban faithful has stolen 201 bases in five minor league season and posted .350 OBP over that span. In 2019 in the Pioneer League with Grand Junction he slashed .331/.366/.440, stole 20 bases and had a wRC+ of 114. Although he struck out in 18.6 % of his at bats, he still had a BABIP of .414.

Unfortunately Díaz was released by the organization earlier this year. The infielder was then signed by the Spire Ciity Ghosthounds of the Atlantic League shortly after his released by Colorado. In 38 games with team he slashed .296/.352/.395/.747 and swiped 23 bases. The speedster based on his performance the Tigres de Quintana Roo of the Liga Mexicana de Béisbol inked him to a deal for the upcoming season.
Díaz will more than likely be the leadoff hitter for the Mexican squad and play shortstop, the Cuban has the tools to be very dangerous on the basepaths in the LMB and be an asset to the Tigres. A good season in México for Díaz could parlay into a return to a major league system or maybe even a contract in Asia.
