Two Cubans are Gold Glove Finalists in the American League.

The outfielders Luis Robert and Adolis García have both been nominated as Gold Glove in the American League. The duo which are natives of Ciego de Ávila, Cuba also played together on the same team in the Serie Nacional in their home country during the 2015 season.

Robert who had an outstanding campaign at the plate swatting 38 longball could be in line to win a second gold glove as a major leaguer, he garnered his first prize in 2020 as a rookie. In over 1,200 innings played the centerfielder only made three errors while also gunning down seven runners. “The Black Panther” as he is known by the Cuban faithful also posted an RAA of 11,OAA of 13 and also saved six runs on the campaign.

In García’s case, who also slugged 39 dingers, the rightfielder was dandy on defense. In 1,185 innings this season he posted a DRS of 6, UZR of 5 and UZR/150 5.4. Strapped with a cannon arm he also added 11 assists on the campaign and with these numbers is the favorite to win the award.

Some stellar Cuban gloves like Nolan Arenado and Lourdes Gurriel Jr were left out of contention for a the award. For the first time in his Arenado will not win a gold glove. In Gurriel’s case it is somewhat surprising, because he is an amazing leftfielders in his own right.
