Suspensions announced for ALCS bench-clearing incident.

The bench-clearing incident Game 5 of the ALCS between Texas and did not go without repercussions for either squad involved. Yesterday Mike Hill the senior vice-president of MLB field operations and former Marlins GM handed the punishment, which is listed.

After a monstrous homerun by Adolis García a few innings earlier and demonstrative celebration, Houston pitcher Bryan Abreu hit the Texas outfielder with a 100 mph fastball causing both benches to clear. Their was a brief animated exchange between Astros’ catcher Martín Maldonado and García to which both were quickly separated.

García appeared to be restrained by his countrymen and Houston slugger Yordan Álvarez, while Maldonado was led away by various teammates. The situation did not become serious, while Abreu and García were both tossed from the game.

On the other hand Houston manager Dusty Baker was not to pleased with the situation and let it be known leading to him also getting the heave-ho in the contest. The Astros ended up winning the contest 5-4 led by a José Altuve three-run homerun in top of the 9th inning and today have a chance to put an end to the series, making their third straight trip to the World Series.

Punishment for Game 5 incident as per MLB:

  • Bryan Abreu (Hou) (2 game suspension)*
  • Lance McCullers Jr (Hou) (fined banned from bench for series)
  • Dusty Baker (Hou) fined
  • Matt Bush (Tex) (fined banned from bench for series)
