Henry Urrutia collected three hits in five trips to the plate, knocked in a run, scored a run and even stole a base to do his part in the Gigantes del Cibao’s 9-5 win over the Tigres del Licey. The native of Las Tunas, Cuba has now driven in a run in two consecutive games and saw his average ascend to .239 on the young campaign.
Yasmany Tomás swatted a hit and drove in a run in three at-bats in Los Mochis 5-2 victory over Jalisco. The slugger from Havana has now driven in nine runs and is hitting a solid .300 on the campaign. Tomás is starting to find his stride after a slow start to the winter.
In other winter league news with the Nicaraguan Winter League tomorrow manager of the Tigres de Chinandega announced that three Cubans, Dayan García (3B), Rubi Silva (CF) and Lorenzo Quintana (1B) will be in the lineup for the squad on Opening Day. Right-hander José Ramón Rodríguez will also start the third game of the season.
