Yoanner Negrín was masterful for the Leones de León in their 7-1 win over El Tren del Norte. The righty allowed only three-hits over 5 ⅔ innings of one-run ball. Negrín also fanned six hitters. The winter league veteran made his debut last night in the Nicaraguan circuit and figures to be a key figure in the felines’ pitching staff this season.
Adeiny Hechavarria had an excellent evening on Opening Day in the LBPRC. The infielder from Santiago de Cuba collected two hits in five trips to the plate and drove in two runs via a first inning groundout and a third inning double Carolina’s 4-2 win over Mayagüez. For the Gigantes Cuban right-hander Orlando Rodríguez also tossed two shutout innings in relief to aid the cause.
Félix Pérez hit his league leading sixth homerun of winter and knocked in two runs to pace Jalisco in their 4-3 triumph over Hermosillo. The first baseman from the Isle of Youth is now hitting .235 and has also driven in 17 runs on the campaign.
