Jorge Martínez tossed five scoreless innings in which allowed four hits and fanned three to blank the Escogido 4-0. The right-hander notched his first victory of the Round Robin for the Estrellas and watched his ERA descend to 1.83 in the postseason.
With their victory the Estrellas advance to the LIDOM finals series where they will face the Estrellas Orientales the Tigres del Licey in a best-of-seven starting on Sunday, with the winner punching their ticket to the Serie del Caribe in Miami. Martínez figures to be a key figure in the team from San Pedro de Macoris’ staff.
In other news the representative from Nicaragua announced its reinforcements for the Serie del Caribe and righty Yoanner Negrín made the cut. In 13 starts this season in the circuit has posted a 6-3 record to go along with a 3.41 earned run average. The Cuban figures to be the opening game starter for the Pinoleros.
