Yesterday the news came out via the colleague Francys Romero that left-handed reliever Darién Núñez has signed with the Tijuana Toros. The hurler figures to be the team’s closer this upcoming season.
Núñez made his major league debut with the Dodgers in 2021. The lefty from Las Tunas, Cuba pitched in the LIDOM and LBPRC this winter compiling a 7.20 earned run average between both circuits in 9⅓ innings of labor.
Núñez last pitched in the LIDOM in 2021-22 with the Estrellas Orientales posting an 1-0 record and a 6.60 earned run average. Last season in San Francisco Giants’ farm system he had a 5.64 in 22.1 outings, while also fanning 28 batters over that span. This will be the Cuban’s first incursion in the Aztec circuit.
