Dayán Viciedo may move to the outfield for the upcoming season with the Chunichi Dragons, as revealed by Manager Kazuyoshi Tatsuami.
The change is prompted by the Dragons’ recent addition of Sho Nakata, who primarily plays Viciedo’s position at first base. Nakata has a career .250 average, 10-time All-Star, and three-time Pacific League RBI leader.
To ensure both players remain integral parts of the lineup, Viciedo’s transition to the outfield is being explored. Viciedo has outfield experience with the Chicago White Sox and played a few games in that position for the Dragons back in 2016. Despite primarily being a first baseman and designated hitter, the upcoming season may see him embracing a new defensive role for Chunichi, maintaining the team’s competitive edge.
