In the Puerto Rican Winter League, JC played for the Leones de Ponce and joined the Gigantes de Carolina for the championship series. He was selected as an LBPRC All-Star and made the All-LBPRC team. He was chosen to join the LBPRC champions, Criollos de Caguas, in the Caribbean Series after slashing .370/.500/.593 in the Championship Series.
Escarra has signed a minor league deal that includes a spring training invite with the New York Yankees.

JC, your first Serie del Caribe. Did you have any first-day jitters?

“Only jitters is playing in my hometown, in front of my friends and family. The first game was yesterday, so now we’re ready to rock-n-roll.”

You’ve played in the Liga; how is that going to help you against Odrisamer Despaigne?

“I know all those guys played in the summer, and in the winter, I know what to expect.”

Being of Cuban descent, how does it make you feel that you are in Miami, at home?

“I got a lot of pride, playing in front of all the Cubans and Cuban-Americans. My family came from Cuba.”

Yesterday, you played first base, having played more catcher this season. Did you feel a little awkward?

“No, I’ve played first base in the past; I feel comfortable. Wherever they put me, I’m ready to rock-n-roll.”

How will this help you get ready for spring training, and do you have goals for spring training?

“First, my best goal will be to make the team out of camp and be ready. I’m going to be the most ready guy there.”
