Vladimir Gutierrez saw his first action of the season and looked very comfortable in an unfamiliar role, closing a game. The right-hander from Pinar del Río tossed a scoreless ninth and fanning a batter to preserve Miami’s 2-0 shutout of Houston. The flamethrowing righty could be the answer for Miami’s biggest hole in the bullpen.
Jorge Soler connected on a run-scoring single in the third inning in his two trips to the plate and also scored on an occasion, but this wasn’t enough to prevent the Giants from getting lambasted by Milwaukee 13-8. The slugger is now hitting a robust .500 on the spring in 12 AB’s.
Lourdes Gurriel Jr swatted a hit in three at-bats, while also driving in a run and scoring on another occasion in Arizona’s 5-3 win over San Diego. The outfielder saw his average rise to .353 and has also driven in four runs on the spring. Gurriel is looking to build on a season that saw him make his first All-Star appearance.
