Sergio Barthelemy will make his debut this summer year in Venezuela’s Liga Mayor de Béisbol Profesional with the defending champion Marineros de Carabobo. The once heralded prospect left Cuba in 2019 in search of future in professional baseball. The native of Santiago de Cuba was on the list given to MLB by Cuba in their now defunct agreement.
Barthelemy made his professional debut in 2021 with the Piratas de Campeche and hit .105 with one RBI in five games with the Mexican squad. The outfielder has also seen action with Veracruz and was in the Unión Laguna system before he was released by the club. In his two seasons in México he hit a paltry .150.
The 29-year-old will once again be given a chance to flash his talents and also join his countrymen Yoel Yanqui in the Marineros lineup. With a good showing in LMBP Barthelemy could possibly secure a return to México during the season and/or open the eyes of a winter league ballclub.
