Another prized pitching talent leaves Cuba.

In Cuba, a lot of talent continues to emerge, but with the economic situation that the country is going through, plenty of this young talent has been gradually leaving the island. The colleague Francys Romero from Beisbol FR reported yesterday through his sources that the Villa Clara pitching prospect, Yan Edwing Cabrera, has left Cuba and is in the Dominican Republic where he will seek to sign with an MLB organization .

Cabrera, was one of the best pitching prospects left in Cuba. He posted a record of 8-0 and 0.24 ERA, in 59 IP he fanned 80 SO in the last national U-18 tournament. The young hurler was also a member of the national team in this category in 2022. He was a national Under-23 Champion with Villa Clara in this same year, the last championship of that category that was held in Cuba.

In 2023 he debuted in the Serie Nacional with the Azucareros de Villa Clara and was then added to the Liga Elite Winter Baseball League to reinforce the Cazadores de Artemisa, a team which was runner-up to that tournament in January of this year.

Edwing has excellent fastball that sits between 92-94 MPH and good size, his main problem has been his control, something that he will have to work on before looking to sign once he is declared a free agent. Several other players who were his teammates in Cuba on the national team have gone on to sign , one being left-handed pitcher Miguel Flores, who signed for half a million dollars with the Cleveland Guardians.

Third baseman José Luis Cerice signed for 700 thousand with the Kansas City Royals and OF Yandro Hernández, son of Stalin Hernandez, will sign with the Minnesota Twins for a figure close to 800 thousand dollars. Others like Marcos Argudín from Pinar del Río and Miguel Neira from Sancti Spiritus are also looking to sign while training in México.
