Two Cubans to see action in the Series between Yankees and Diablos Rojos.

The New York Yankees and the Diablos Rojos de México City will face off on March 24 & 25 in Alfredo Harp Helú stadium in a series between these two storied franchise in México’s capital.

The team from Gotham will have JC Escarra on their roster for the series as per a source of the Cuban Baseball Digest, while another source has confirmed to me that Diosbel Arias will see action in one or both games for the Aztec squad.

Escarra who is in a battle for a roster spot is hitting .267 with a homer, five runs batted in and is slashing .267/.467/.734. The Cuban-American catcher was not to shabby this winter either with the lumber in Puerto Rico placing sixth in the LBPRC in hits (35), second in doubles (9), and fifth in runs batted in (15).

In a position where hitting is not at a premium Escarra’s hitting is definitely a plus. Expect the Yankees’ offseason free agent signee to show off his talents in the batter’s box during this series. Escarra led the Mexican League playoffs last season in homeruns with seven while playing with Unión Laguna.

In the case of Arias, who was once a prospect in Rangers’ system, was not re-signed by Texas after becoming a minor league free agent this offseason. The infielder is looking to shine versus major league competition in order to earn a spot in the Diablos Rojos’ lineup.

In six minor league seasons the 27-year-old slashed .284/.360/.399/.759, while also going yard 29 times and knocking in 257 runs. This winter the Cuban hit .229 in 12 games with the Toros del Este of the Dominican League.
