Sources have told the Cuban Baseball Digest that right-handed reliever Jimmy Yacabonis has signed with the Diablos Rojos de México City of the Liga Mexicana de Béisbol. With the LMB season slated to open next month the Cuban-American’s acquisition adds another quality arm to the Diablos Rojos’ bullpen.
Yacabonis was not a highly rated prospect when he was drafted in the 13th round of the 2013 MLB Draft by the Baltimore. Yet through perseverance and hard work the crafty righty made his major league debut in 2017 with the Orioles.
The reliever pitched six years in the big show with Baltimore,The Mets,Marlins, Tampa Bay and Seattle. In 131 ⅔ innings pitched Yacabonis has won six games and fanned 107 batters over that span. In all sense of the word the hurler is a bonified major leaguer.
Yacabonis pitched in the Dominican League this winter showcasing his talents and was lights out. In 14 games with the Toros del Este in the LIDOM he did not allow an earned run and fanned 12 batters in 11⅔ innings pitched.
