José Abreu knocked in a run via a first inning single in three trips to the plate, but the Houston Astros dropped a 3-1 decision to their Triple-A squad the Sugarland Space Cowboys. Yordan Álvarez in his own right helped the team from Space City’s cause with a hit in two at-bats and a run scored.
Raisel Iglesias tossed a scoreless inning in preparation for the regular season. The right-hander also struck out a batter in Atlanta’s 4-0 blanking of Minnesota. In 7 ⅔ innings pitched this spring the native of the Isle of Youth has fanned 13.
Cuban-American JC Escarra swatted two hits in three at-bats and drove in a run in the Yankees’ 8-5 loss to the Diablos Rojos of México City in Alfred Harp Helú Stadium. The catcher-first baseman will begin the season at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. With a good start and a little luck the 28-year-old has a chance to make his MLB debut.
