Alexei Ramírez, at 42 years of age has hit 100 HR’s in the Cuban Serie Nacional, the eleventh hitter to reach that plateau for Pinar del Río in Cuban baseball. The “Pirineo” as he is known by the Cuban faithful becomes the third player to hit 100 roundtrippers in both Cuba and the Major Leagues.
The other two besides Ramírez to reach 100 longballs are Yoenis Céspedes and José Abreu, two other Cubans that have made history on the grand stage as well. Coincidentally Céspedes and Abreu join Ramírez as the other two of his countrymen to reach the big leagues without going through a farm system.
During his time in the majors with the White Sox, Rays and Padres Ramírez hit .270 with 115 homeruns, 590 RBIs and slashed .307/.393/.700. In the Serie Nacional with only Pinar del Río he hits .343 with 102 homeruns, 447 runs batted in and slashes .409/.534/.943 in the Cuban circuit.
