Although the Yasmani Grandal’s eight inning two-run blast was his only hit it was key in the Pirates in their 7-2 win over the Milwaukee Brewers. After starting the season on the IL the catcher now has two longballs in his first 22 visits to the dish on the campaign.
J.D. Martínez swatted three hits in four trips to the plate, while also driving in two runs via a second inning double and a third inning bases loaded walk in the Mets’ 5-4 loss to the Phillies. The Cuban-American slugger is now hitting .302 and has also knocked in five runs on the season.
Nolan Arenado deposited his third ball of season in the seats, his only hit in five at-bats to do his part in St. Louis’ 10-5 victory over the Angels. The hit broke a skid that saw the third baseman .143 over his last seven games.
