Raidel Martínez recorded his twenty-first save of the season after allowing a only a hit in a scoreless relief inning in which he fanned two of the three batters he faced to preserve Chunichi’s 1-0 shutout win over Hiroshima. His ERA dropped to 0.90 and the right-hander is the actual leader of the Central League in saves.
Martínez has easily been the most effective closer in the NPB over the last seven seasons saving a whopping 143 games over that and might be showcasing his talents in the upcoming Premier 12 for Cuba.
In the KBO Guillermo Heredia collected a hit in four trips to the plate and drove in a run, but SSG fell to NC 3-2. The outfielder from Matanzas, Cuba saw his average fall to .362 on the season leaving still first in the circuit in that statistical category.
