Latest roster movements in the Liga Mexicana de Béisbol involving Cubans.

During the July 5th slate several movements were made involving Cuban players as part of the movement deadline for the 2024 season of the Liga Mexicana de Béisbol(LMB). One of the Cubans involved was Luis Miguel Romero from Guantánamo.

The pitcher, who played for the national team in the 2023 World Baseball Classic, was released from the Querétaro Conspiradores. The team was very active on this date, adding five new players to their roster, signing two international free agents, releasing two players, and permanently transferring the rights of Roel Santos from back to his former team, the Olmecas de Tabasco.

In Romero’s case , he pitched in ten games with the team (all as a starter), posting a record of two wins and two losses, with a 4.95 ERA over 40 innings pitched, 27 strikeouts, 21 walks, and a WHIP of 1.80.

Romero, along with Santiago native Ronnier Mustelier, has the unfortunate distinction of being promoted to Major League Baseball at some point in his career (while with the Oakland Athletics in 2021) but not making an appearance on the field during that brief stay.

His career received a boost during the last World Baseball Classic, to the point where he was selected as a relief pitcher for the All-Tournament team, highlighting his potential contributions in any role.

He was expected to return to the Cuban team for the upcoming Premier 12, but he recently ruled out that possibility due to personal problems in the country. He reported these issues to the relevant authorities seeking a possible solution, but his claims have been ignored by the officials, leading to his discontent.

Lázaro Blanco who was released by León was subsequently signed by Veracruz and was the pitcher of record in last night’s victory by the Águila. Blanco has a 2-2 record and 6.60 earned run average this season in the Liga Mexicana de Béisbol.

In the case of Castillo he is making his season debut with Querétaro after being held on the inactive roster. The ex-big leaguer played with Guadalajara last season and hit a solid .279 in 13 games before being being released by the Mariachis.

Rangel Ravelo on the other hands adds a potent bat go aid fellow Cuban slugger Yadiel Hernández in the Tecolotes de Dos Laredos lineup. The experienced big leaguer makes his debut in Mexico. Thi season he was in the Seattle and Pasres organizations, before his release. Ravelo has also seen action in the Nippon League.
