Aroldis Chapman notched his fourth save on the campaign and the 325 of his career passing Huston Street on the all-time list after tossing a scoreless ninth in which he struck out a batter to secure a Pittsburgh 1-0 win over the Brewers. The left-hander has now fanned 55 batters in 33⅔ innings.
His countrymen and teammate Yasmani Grandal collected a hit in four trips to the plate and drove in the game’s only run via a run-scoring double in the seventh inning to propel the Pirates’ win. The native of Melena del Sur, Cuba has now driven in 17 on the season.
J.D. Martínez had a perfect evening at the plate swatting three hits in as many trips to the plate, including a run-scoring fifth inning single to do his part in the Mets’ 7-0 blanking of Washington. The Cuban-American slugger watched his average rise to .274 on the season and has now driven in 23 runs over the last month.
Randy Arozarena went yard for the 12th time on the season and knocked in two runs to do his part in Tampa’s 5-4 over the Yankees. The diminutive but powerful outfielder is hitting a solid .280 over his last seven games. Yandy Díaz also got into the act for the Rays by hitting two doubles in four at-bats and scoring twice on the night.
