In the Nippon League Cuban-American Coco Montes went yard for the first time in the NPB and as a Yomiuri Giant, while also driving in all three of the team’s runs in its 4-3 loss to the Yakult Swallows. In 27 games with the Japanese squad the slugger is hitting a robust .341.
Ariel Martinez swatted his twelfth home run of the year and also slugged a double in five at-bats, while also driving in a run to contribute to the Nippon Ham Fighters’ 6-3 victory over the SoftBank Hawks at the Pay Pay Dome in Fukuoka. The first baseman raised his average to .237 and his total of RBIs to 51.
For SoftBank, lefty Liván Moinelo suffered his fifth loss of the year after allowing six runs and six hits in three innings of work. Moinelo fell to 10-5 and his ERA balloones to 1.97 on the season, a figure that leaves him first in the Pacific League in that statistical category.
