Cuban Yuli Gurriel made his long-awaited return to the Major Leagues on September 1, wearing the Kansas City Royals uniform. After almost a year away following his last appearance in the big leagues with the Miami Marlins, the experienced first baseman returned to the field, proving that he still has a lot to offer on the diamond.
The stage for his comeback could not have been more symbolic: Minute Maid Park in Houston, a stadium that was his home for seven seasons. During his time with the Astros, Gurriel became a key piece of a historic team, being part of a core that transformed Houston into a baseball powerhouse.
Now, with the Royals, he seeks to contribute his experience and leadership to a team in reconstruction, while he continues to write memorable chapters in his career. Regarding how he has adapted to the Kansas team, Yuli told Martí Noticias that he feels more and more comfortable with the team everyday.
”I think that a change is always a little more difficult in every sense of the word, it requires adaptation and little by little I have gotten used to my new team. Also, they have an incredible group of talented players here and that has made it easier to become accustomed to my new surroundings. “
”My fundamental role with the team is no secret to anyone. I am here to share the experience that I have acquired through these years here in MLB and the time that I also played in Cuba. And that is something that is good for me because I really like helping the mentor young guys”
