Guillermo Heredia collected two hits in four trips to the plate and knocked in two runs in an SSG 11-9 triumph over Samsung two days ago. The outfielder has driven in 105 runs on the season and leads the Korean circuit with a .358 batting average.
Heredia made history in the KBO yesterday with a third inning run-scoring double. With that he became the single-season hits leader for the SSG Landers, breaking Jung Eui-yoon’s 2016 record with 180 hits. In his two years in the Korean Baseball Organization he is slashing .341/.390/.492/.882 with 33 homers, 58 doubles and 183 runs batted in.
The two-time KBO All-Star has swatted 333 hits and will figure to be a key figure in the Landers’ quest to make the playoffs, as of right now the team in two games out of the last playoff spot. The native of Matanzas, Cuba re-signed with the team for 1.5M during the offseason to return as the squad’s top hitter.
Heredia had this to say to us before the season and if there was any pressure to perform to validate his big contract, “There is no pressure on me this season, I am simply going to go out and play to have fun. You do not have 100% control over your results on the field, but I am always going to give 100% of myself. We want to win this season, try to do our best.”
The Cuban has definitely become a stalwart for SSG this season and could be an offensive juggernaut for the Landers for years to come.
