Cuban-American catcher JC Escarra will be promoted to the New York Yankees taxi squad for the playoffs. The announcement should be made this Sunday after the Scranton Wilkes-Barre Railriders last game of the season. The native of Hialeah, FL is slashing .293/.398/.524/.922 with eight homeruns and 30 RBIs over a 50 game span with the ballclub.
The young slugger had this to say recently to the Cuban Baseball Digest about his torrid hitting at Triple-A and possible future promotion to MLB,”It gives a little more motivation, I feel like it’s a door that has opened for me and that I have to be thankful for another opportunity. This is an opportunity that a lot of guys don’t get, so I am trying to make the most of it. “
“I am one step from the big leagues, in fact I’m so close I can almost taste it and I feel im my last go around in the minors with Baltimore I wasn’t able to enjoy myself. I wasn’t able to do what I wanted to do, but now that I am back I am making the most of it. I am showing that I do belong and deserve to be called a big leaguer. “
Escarra’s addition to the team’s taxi squad would give the Yanks insurance in case any of the team’s catchers Austin Wells or Jose Trevino were to incur any injury during the course of the postseason, Wells recently missed of few games due to being hit by a pitch on one of his hands. The Miamian’s versatility will also help his case if he were to see any action in playoffs, Escarra can also play third base and in the outfield.
His promotion might also impede his incorporation to the Águilas Cibaeñas, his winter league ballclub in the Dominican League. If he is to make his MLB debut during the postseason he would join a short list of players to make their debut during that stage of the major league season. In a season that has been a success the best to come could ahead in the near future for Escarra.
