Raidel Martínez notched his 42nd save after striking out one of the three batters he faced in a scoreless ninth inning of relief in the Chunichi Dragons’ 2-1 victory over the Hiroshima Carps at the Vantelin Dome in Nagoya.
The right-hander from Pinar del Río,Cuba earned his 10th save in 10 outings, improved his ERA to 1.13 and extended his lead in saves in the Central League. He also tied for the most saves by a Latino during a season in the NPB, which was established by Venezuelan Robert Suárez in 2021.
In the CPBL left-hander Río Gómez tossed a scoreless inning in which he fanned two of the three batters he faced to do his part in Wei-Chaun’s 5-1 win over CTBC Brothers. The Cuban-American hurler saw his ERA descend to 0.90 on the season and he has now struck out 89 batters in 89⅔ innings of work.
