Raisel Iglesias tossed a scoreless ninth inning in which he only allowed a hit to notch his 34th save of the season and secure a postseason berth via an Atlanta 3-0 shutout of the Mets in the second game of their doubleheader. The right-hander also saw his ERA descend to 1.95 on the campaign.
Daysbel Hernández also helped the cause by throwing 1⅔ scoreless innings in which he struck two of the five batters he faced to win his third game of the season. Jorge Soler even got in on the act with two hits in three trips to the plate and scored a run in his own right. With their victory the Braves have now made the playoffs seven straight seasons.
In the first game of the twin-billing the other Iglesias, José laced a key eighth inning single off his homolgue to tie the game at three in a six-run stanza that would give the Mets a 6-3 lead heading into the bottom of that inning. The team from Gotham would squander that lead, but a key Francisco Lindor two-run shot in the top would be enough to push New York past the team from the peach state 8-7 also securing a playoff birth for the team from Queens.
Atlanta will head to San Diego for the Wildcard round, while New York faces Milwaukee in today’s action. The pitching matchups will Michael King taking the hill for the Padres to more than likely face Chris Sale for the tribe. In the New York-Milwaukee contest countrymen Luis Severino (Mets) and Freddy Peralta will square off against one another.
