Elían Leyva notched his first win of the season after tossing five innings of three-hit, two-run ball to help the Escogido secure a 9-4 win over the Toros del Este in the Dominican Winter League. The right-hander also fanned five on the day to see earned run average descend to 5.06 on the campaign.
Henry Urrutia had a perfect inning at the plate collecting two hits in as many at-bats to watch his average raise to .405 on the season, but the Gigantes del Cibao lost 13-11 in a shootout between the two teams. The Cuban slugger also knocked in three runs on the evening to raise his season total to seven.
In Venezuela Peter O’Brien went yard twice, knocked in three runs and scored twice in Magallanes’ 7-4 defeat at the hands of Aragua. Although he hits a paltry .152 on the season and is fourth in the LVBP in RBIs with 12. O’Brien has been a key run producer on the early for the Navegantes.
Yasmany Tomás swatted a key seventh inning two-run blast, his third of the campaign to seal Los Mochis’ 3-1 triumph over the Indios de Navojoa. The native of Havana has also now driven in 13 runs on the season and this now leaves him first amongst Cuban in the winter circuits.
