Miguel Romero signed yesterday with the Indios de Mayagüez returning to a team he starred with in 2019-20. The right-hander will add a valuable arm to the team’s pitching corps and could be a determining factor in the upcoming Round Robin in the LBPRC. His versatility could be a valuable edition to a team in the postseason seeing that he could perform in any role necessary.
In his first go-around with the team he had a 2-0 record, 1.46 ERA and four saves in 14 appearances primarily out of the bullpen. He also struck out 13 in 12⅓ innings pitched for the tribe. Romero has also seen action in the league with the Gigantes de Carolina (2022-23) and boasts a 0.94 earned run average over his career in the Puerto Rican circuit.
Romero by his own accord made three starts with Rivas in the LBPN notching a win over that span. In 14 innings pitched in the LBPN the hurler has posted a 1-1 record, 3.86 earned run average and fanned nine batters. After struggling in the LVBP and being released by the Tiburones de La Guaira Romero has found his niche in the Nicaraguan Winter League.
In other news Jean Walters has signed with the Indios del Bóer of the LBPN and Albert Lara with the Gigantes de Carolina of the LBPRC. Walters who is a Arizona Diamondbacks farmhand also saw action in the Premier 12 with the Cuban National Team, while Lara is a Liga Mexicana de Béisbol veteran at the young age of 25 and hit .323 over three seasons in the circuit with Unión Laguna and Tabasco.
